You asked several questions.
So is it an alpha male type situation

And there are several more.
All of them are your own personal ramblings, even though you've couched them
as 'questions'.
That may be why Halla's response is a raised eyebrow.

Ah, I can relate to that. Was worried at work today that I may have to
grab the books and haul them all to a higher shelf, except the nice
newly re-thatched roof decided to drip, too, so it would have been
sort of pointless.
<obligatory grumble> Didn't we used to get summers? </og> Still, I'm
feeling quite nostalgic because this 'heavy showers followed by damp
evenings with one or two lazy raindrops' reminds me of every family
holiday I ever went on and the phrase 'you should have been here last
week...'

Indeed, and it is *your* non standards compliant Usenet client that is
causing the mess..

No. it's the people putting the sigs in that are causing the mess.

Bollocks is it.. the .sigs are all standards compliant and a standards
compliant newsreader will automagically cut them.. the reason for you
having to manually cut them is that *your* Usenet clent is not
standards compliant, so it is *your* client that is the problem..

Are you suggesting that Microsoft's OE puts the sigs in?

The sigs that people put in you mean? My point is made.

Actually It's Microsoft's client, not mine and it's the end user's right to
choose what lient they want to use and not yourposition to tell them what
clients they can use. I use OE because I like it and if you don't like that
then that;s your problem.

You really DO like to make yourself look thick, doncha. *bemused grin*
FoR, have you actually been and read the Posting Guidelines?
Here, have some links.

Nope.

The thing about guidlines is that they are "guidlines".

Usenet conventions and Usenet-compliant newsreaders developed together.
Newsreaders were designed to accommodate the current poster's sig and remove
that of the previous poster, because sigs were an anticipated and expected
part of posts. It seems that you want to participate in Usenet, and be
accepted, while at the same time announcing constantly that you won't
conform to Usenet practice or guidelines. I think you've confused genuine
individuality with what the LJ retail comms call 'speshul little
snowflakes' - the person who wants all the advantages of the supermarket,
but thinks they can demand a refund with no receipt because that's "their
problem" for having rules.
