How lovely that it says it contains spoilers, too. Some of the

Including one who seems to be talking about a different set of books
entirely.

Well yes. There's also at least one from someone who appears not to
have read the books concerned at all. There always is though, isn't
there? <g> What better place to criticise bitterly than from almost
complete ignorance?

I haven't read any of them, but spotted them in the local co-op
store the other day. Having £14 in dividend vouchers, I decided to
waste them in one go and put some money towards it, buying the whole
trilogy. I'm now going to try to plough through the first book over
the weekend whist waiting for planes and on buses, on my trip to
Iceland. Just in time to go and see it at the local cinema next week
when I get back. :)

Sounds like you've a very enjoyable week ahead,
<fx checks dates>
Hope you're enjoying it.
(and we get a highlights report - vague plans on heading that direction at
some pont)

It was pretty good trip, though flying is starting to get boring
now. It wasn't as fun as last year though (when I first went) as I'd
seen pretty much most of what I'd gone there to see before. Didn't
get much of a show from the aurora though, and I don't expect I'd
have been able to top last year's display as that was during a solar
flare.
Visiting the blue lagoon for the day is a must though!
I finished reading the golden compass just before I got on the plane
to come back, and went to see the film on thursday evening. It's a
shame they had to chop it up so much to fit it into a film - and
rearrange some of the scenes. Makes it quite confusing if you've
read the book already.
I'm now half way through the subtle knife, and it's getting
difficult to see how they'll stitch the remaining two episodes
together in a sensible manner after missing so much of the vital
detail out of the first film.

That's pretty much what I thought. I suppose I shouldn't have reread
so close to seeing the film. It did feel like it was put together from
someone's faulty memory of the book. <g>

I mentioned a dreadful possibility about Will to the husband bloke,
but we'll see what happens. <eg>
Knowing Hollywood though they could condense the other two into one
film, but they won't if they think it's a money spinner.

What do you regard as the must sees?

Colour me green, never seen the Aurora at all.

Noted, will do when I get there.

Its not even a good abridgement.
I'm wondering just how much they'll include in the other two (assuming they
make two) and wether it makes any sense if you haven't read the books

Thet could pull the usual stunt, just ignore the books and do something very
different under the same name.

Hmm.

The OH said he found it slightly tricky to follow the film as he
hasn't read the book for a while.

I'd hope that era has passed, what with a certain Ms. Rowling
insisting that no one got to buy the franchise name from her etc.
Anyway, what's the next Pullman series on BBC over chrimble time then?
We've had the Ruby in the Smoke, is it the Shadow in the North next?
<checks website> Ooh, it is!

Golden Circle tour, goes around an extinct volcano, greenhouses,
geysir, thingvellir (tectonic plate join) and gullfoss waterfall.
Go with Reykjavik excursions, they're a great bus company and pick
up and drop off from just about any hotel. They even picked me up
and took me back to keflavik when I went on tours last year, and
that's about 30 miles from reykjavik.
