What on earth makes you think that the Jacobite cause was Catholic v. 
Protestant? While it is true that the two sides were largely Catholic 
on the one hand and largely Protestant on the other, they were by no 
means exclusively so.

There were plenty of English Catholics who feared the wild Scots and 
plenty of Scottish Protestants who hated the English king.
