What on earth would make you think I was against freedom? It's
precisely because I am/want to be free that I object to things like
alcohol: the alcoholic or other drug-depender is *not* free!

I didn't have that one question specifically in mind; I was thinking
about your set of pre- and proscriptions taken in their crazy ;-)
entirety, as well as your inclination to impose them on others.
But since you mentioned it, I certainly agree with you that alcoholics
are not free. I also believe that the majority of people who drink
are --- like the apostles and many other wine-consuming "good guys" in
the Bible --- moderate consumers who should be free to do so without
interference or condemnation.

Neither are Vegetarians, Ken, or human herbivores, they have a meat-eating
neurosis.

Naturally, being right all the time, I am eager to help others to the
same happy destination.

If these people lived alone on a desert island, I would have no
objection whatsoever. As few are so fortunately placed, it is not
inappropriate to consider the effect of their example on others who
lack their will-power.
Plus it saddens me to see people unnecessarily damaging their health.

It's just as well we're Christians - otherwise we would be guilty of
the sin of pride as we compare our fortunate state with that of lesser
mortals.
