Meditation.
Having had long term problems with schizo-affective disorder. I've
been looking for somewhere to feel grounded and have something to
focus my attention on, so...

Just got back from a meditation class. All I can say is wow, this is
something I really need at the moment. Having been used to Theravada
tradition and it's rather rigid discipline. This tradition is
Longchen. A far more relaxed approach with compassion and openness as
the goal.

http://www.longchenfoundation.org/

I shall definitely be returning next week. And I'll find the time to
practice before then to.

Actually looking at the site a second time, it does seem like that

Just make a habit of "forgetting" your wallet
and see how long you are welcome.

Well at the local group they didn't ask for money. What group would
you recommend then? Out of interest.

If they can supress their desire to take your money
you might as well stick with them although the Buddha
did teach that one should be a lamp unto oneself.

Note. He never made so much as a squeak with respect
to taking more that half an unemployed persons weekly income
or a hefty chuck of a poor pensioners meagre pittance in return
for help.

I agree, I'll stick with it. Although there is another group local to
me on a Saturday. I'll try that one, although the saturday one is run
by friends of the western buddhist order. I have heard bad things
about them. I won't judge till I try it though.

That's another nasty looking page... gruesome adverts.

These thieves who keep trying to make cash
on the back of the Buddhas "long and painful austerities"
should be horsewhipped at the very least.

Please don't post anynmore money grubbing links
to this last vestige (usenet) of non commerciality.

Well I'm trying to find a meditation group in my area. Those are the
only two that I found. I would like to go to a group so I can be with
like minded individuals. What do you suggest?

I love that paradox... "like minded individuals."

I suggest you bear this in mind
http://www.buddhanet.net/e-learning/buddhistworld/layguide.htm
and keep a keen eye out for people trying to flog
New "Sew" Age guff on the back of the Buddha.

I live in London, NW3.

I don't like to recommend anything to someone I have never met
but, if presssed, I'll discuss it with you offline... meaning via email,
rather than this public forum.
