Wordpress; posting on added pages
My client wants to split her posts over several pages, with links in the nav
bar (one for each category). I thought this would be standard but when I
went to work on it and found the 'pages in a nutshell' statement it was a
big spanner.
* Pages are not Posts, nor are they excerpted from larger works of fiction.
They do not cycle through your blog's main page. (Note: You can include
Posts in Pages by using the Inline Posts Plugin.)
* Pages cannot be associated with Categories and cannot be assigned Tags.
The plugin requires you to go in to the code of the new page and plant a
post ID. I can handle this but my client's blog editor is not all that
computer literate.
Am I missing or misreading something with this very useful wordpress tool,
or are you just not supposed to spread out over several pages? That and the
above is my assessment so far and the client won't like it, does anybody
have anything to say... please?

Out of the box Wordpress is a blog, not a generic CMS. When I write a
series of posts, I tend to just write regular posts and provide my own
links (for example,
http://perceptionistruth.com/2008/12/painting-diary-chronoscope-sasha-dubois-part-one/)
However, there are extensive plugins dedicated to making Wordpress
behave like a generic CMS.
I don't really grasp the 'links in the navbar, one per category' thing,
but maybe you're talking about different sets of posts, all on different
topic (like a series on house plants, one on garden weeds, etc.) In
which case, I found the AZIndex plugin fantastic for that purpose.
You can see it in action here -> http://www.onelinemoviereviews.co.uk/
In the navbar (I guess if you want to call it that) there's a link to
Content, which breaks into four pages. Each of those is built
dynamically by the AZIndex plugin, sorting and categorising posts in
different ways. You can limit the indexes by tag, category, etc. and
combine different tags and categories together.
It's a really, really simple plugin to use, and yet the results are very
powerful for categorising and indexing posts.

Thanks Tony, I'll have a look at that tomorrow (taking a sunday break).
