BBC News slideshow
A little while ago, the BBC started to place embedded slideshows at the
top of some big news pages. They were featured for example in coverage
of the Australian bush fires, and the US election.
I haven't seen any new examples for a while. Have they been abandoned?
An example is at:

Hopefully, yes!
I'm not against their use, just their onLoad nature, even worse are
those f*cking embedded videos that start playing, not only are they
abusing my IP connection but they delay the page load. Such was the
BBC's arrogance in using such content I stopped using the BBC news
site as my home page, such content should be an option, not a forced
requirement.

There's no way round that (for the images, I mean). If you're going to
have images that display in that fashion, they have to all load straight
away.

Rubbish, these are all basically a Flash content (slide show, video or
audio), other sites manage to use navigation controls that inclued a
"play" button. How the BBC decided to implement their Flash content
was just another example of the BBC current f*ckwittedness... :~(

Rubbish yourself. That slideshow we were talking about doesn't use
Flash. If you have to be rude, try to be right as well.
(Though I was wrong about it needing to load all images at once - it
only loads two at once.)
