123reg £1 a month hosting - ignore
Its only for the first 6 months and its a one year contract - and theres
a £10 setup fee .

Obviously they dont tell you that in the 123reg newsletter (although
they do supply a link to the terms and conditions) .

Why cant they just be honest about it ? .

i.e. the price on the tin is the price you pay at the checkout .

I can never understand the logic of setup fee. Clearly on a server
dedicated to you, I can see the logic, but this I assume is a shared
server, so why not factor the cost of setting it up in the monthly payment?

It is annoying. I guess their answer might be "because everyone else
does it"

Because having it separate allows you to advertise a low headline
price for the monthly hosting.

Also, there's a fairly high proportion of churn at the budget end of
the hosting market. A setup fee helps reduce this, as once you're on a
host, it's more cost-effective to stay than to leave.

And with anybody bothering to look at the deal instantly comming to the
conclusion that its well dodgy .

= whats the point of making said deal if most people feel they have been
tricked and/or hoodwinked into looking at it .
