Evening all

Has anyone managed to get a Huawei 169G working with Three on Ubuntu?

It's driving me nuts!  I've asked in alt.os.linux.ubuntu but I get the 
same things as I've already tried.

Any ideas would be gratefully received!

Have you tried ubuntuforums.org?

Yes.  The trouble is, there are so many different suggestions and none of 
them work.  I've now got it to the stage where it dials and connects but 
the DNS settings are wrong.

I'm going to shove it into a Windows box, get it working and then see if 
I can find the settings to copy across.

This is the last link in the chain to get me totally over to Ubuntu on my 
laptop so I really want to get it sorted.  Mind you, just ordered an iPod 
Touch today and I'm sure that will bring its own challenges!

Why not just buy a mac. I mean I am on Windows here but I would think
that if you do not want to use Windows then a Mac would be a better
option, as least for general computer use then Linux. Linux is great
as a server though.

What?! YOU choose to use Windoze but you advocate Mac? Hardly a 
compelling argument, eh?

Macs may be nice shiny toys if money's no object, but they do not give 
you the freedom that Linux gives you - and I'm not talking about money 
here. And Macs may well be good advice for people that don't have a clue 
about computers, but for people that do have a clue, Linux has loads to 
recommend it over and above any other OS.

If you read what Andy wrote you'd see that this is the 'last link in the 
chain' in upgrading to Ubuntu, and I'm sure he'll get it sorted soon.

It's about getting it working with the EEE PC which is, I think, Xandros 
(if memory serves, a Debian-based distro as is Ubuntu) so there might be 
some useful info there.

That's the long and short of it.  I've got an iMac as well but I love 
Ubuntu as a desktop environment and it gives me a chance to play with 
other things.  I've got Apache/MySQL/PHP installed along with our CMS and 
a demo site so that I can show potential clients.  I've also just 
installed Ruby and Rails to start having a play.

Someone wrote a Linix driver for the older version (the one with the
cable).
It was called a Vodafone Huawei driver but it worked with any of those
modems by any phone company.
Presumably there will eventually be a linux driver for the newer
version.
