I want to run php on my desktop...?
I have a php search page which I can not view locally, windows just asks me
to open dreamweaver and gives me a blank page.

I need some kind of local server don't I. Any advice for a simple one for
that sole purpose that wont slow my PC?

Yeah that is an easy one.
Download WAMP from:

or XAMP from:

XAMPP will install everything you need - and will work straight off the
button with no editing of geeky configuration files needed .

However , If you have a file called poop.php on your desktop or anywhere
else then it wont work .

xampp/htdocs (or something similar)

All your .php files must be in the xampp/htdocs folder or it wont work .

xampp/htdocs/websites

The above folder path is also fine once xampp is installed then use
http://localhost to access your php websites .

Although , I seem to recall saying the above x amount of time ago to you
when you asked the same or similar question .

So , Either just do it or stop asking for stuff you have no real
intention of actually doing .

When I told him I'd got hold of it and it wasn't working (before your post)
he offered to check it out/set up, show the control panel workings, nice
guy.

Sadly, Krusty's right, it should just pretty much work out of the box.

But theres a strange pleasure to be had by cursing and swearing .

I'm a trolling cunt and nobody likes me anyway - so i've nothing to gain
or lose by swearing like a fucking trooper .

On the other hand , The mr nice guy do gooders on usenet impose self
restrictions on themselves and therefore are unable to let rip .

In a way its quite tragic that they value what people they havent even
met (and probably will never meet) think of them .

Take andy from RCM for example as he is one of the most whacked out sad
wasted fuckers you will ever read on usenet (for a variety of reasons i
wont go into here) .

It's amazing what you can read into three simple words.

Keep taking the tablets.

Well I downloaded and installed xamp as I recognised 'apache' that my
wise-guy Ben spoke of before, the post-install/help files read like greek so
I just opened my php file and it failed.

At that point I had no advice about directories, but Ben offered assistance
as he uses apache almost daily.

The directories stuff is simple when you know how, you just need someone to
tell you. And no, nobody does read your posts krusty.

Fuck off ya cunt :-))

But seriously , Couldnt you say something like .....

While i dont normally agree with anything krusty says - he is reasonably
accurate with this one as XAMPP doesnt normally need any user
configuration settings apart from perhaps some firewall authorisations
etc depending on what windows security apps you have installed .

Nah , Thats too fucking easy isnt it .

Well it's all cushty with IE, but FFX can't work this at all. If I try to
run a search from a html page it just sits there scratching it's arse, if I
go into the PHP page itself I get a screen full of code and even warnings of
a missing zdat file from the SE directory. Not missing.

Oh well, works online anyway.

The browser should make no difference at all as long as it's getting its
html from the local server. There should be no php code there at all.

The entire site was moved to htdocs, part of the site is a directory which
holds the php search engine- the whole point I am doing this.

If I shouldn't put php code in the local server then how can I test it
offline and structure for the online server?

You are doing it correctly. But the browser shouldn't make a
difference. You are using http://localhost/ aren't you? Not just
opening the file?

That was it, had localhost open all day with IE then forgot for FF.
