smart ftp
Used it for years and upgraded to the latest version today .

But the (so called) new improvements are awful and its now become time
to uninstall and dump the app .

Having now downloaded and installed a couple of other freeware ftp apps
it looks like coffeecup ftp is going to be the winner .

(didnt even try core ftp as the last time i tried it - the splash screen
had one of those highly annoying 5-10 second countdown timers that
stopped the app from firing up until it counted down to zero)

Did you try sitecopy? I use it for all routine site updates, and only
very rarely use any kind of interactive ftp.

No - but from your brief desctiption of it i assume its some sort of
folder/file sync app that will upload any new or changed files .

If so then in some cases i wouldnt want to upload scripts and stuff that
are half finished and/or still being worked on .

Why not just stick with the old version if that did what you wanted?

Did you try FileZilla?

Because after x amount of time smart ftp will close down just after the
splash screen and wont fire up until you download and install the latest
version .

I'm still happily using 2.5 here and have not 'upgraded' in a long time.
Mine is licensed so perhaps that makes a difference.

Yes, that's exactly what it is, and if you have half-finished scripts
you'd have to work round that problem. Sitecopy can be configured to
exclude files by name or wildcard pattern, so you might be able to
configure a workable system that way.
