Dumb-ass hotlinking an image on my site
[This article supersedes an earlier one with the same subject line. If you
see both, then it's probably a problem with your news server.]

Dumb-ass hotlinking an image on my site...

	http://www.myspace.com/tomahawk33

And I've figured out what I believe to be his IP address from my logs, so
when *he* looks at the page, he just sees the original (expected) graphic.

Ought to take a while for him to figure this one out...

I didn't notice it at first, I was scrolling down, scrolling down,
trying to see which image wasn't "right" when all of a sudden the
background glared out at me. LOL.

I once used a jpeg image of 4095 by 4095 pixels :-D (IIRC that was the
max)

There are generaly more than one server in a path, and any or some or all
of them may not be honoring supercedes, just as most don't honor cancels
any more due to abuse.

Shame you can't do the same to the music; replace the gold chain rambling
with Teletubbies.

IIRC, supersedes work entirely through the addition of a "Supersedes" line
to the message headers. Even if a server does not honour supersedes, the
header will normally be passed along intact, so other servers further down
the path can still honour it.

And, those other servers further down the line are, as I mentioned,
probably not honoring the supercedes. Including something that nobody's
listening to doesn't generate a lot of activity.
