BT are saying that this has been resolved, We'll carry on to monitor
it.

I had to reboot the router when I came home. Do BT have any solution for
the need to press the big red switch on the router as this is not an
option if I am away.

Actually, looking at my graph, it all went dead at 11 am. This is over an
hour after BT say it was resolved.

I have a cron job which checks the router for a duff IP
address every 15 minutes, and reboots it if it finds one.

I had something similar on my old router. I haven't got around to doing
one for the Zyxel yet. But it would have been of no use because I
couldn't get into the router even from the computer connected with an
ethernet cable.

I guess the best solution for such problems is something like:
http://www.maplin.co.uk/free_uk_delivery/4_Channel_Computer_Controlled_Switch_37769/4_Channel_Computer_Controlled_Switch_37769.htm
... and what a strange repetitive URL (8-)#

Yes - I had the exact same experience, also with a Zyxel (660HWP) which is
worrying. Why should a problem in the WAN crash the LAN? When something
similar happened with a previous Zyxel router it was the precursor to the
thing failing to maintain a connection for more that 1/2 hour.
Is this a design fault with Zyxels?

I have considered such a solution but a tad simpler: a time switch in the
router's mains socket set to switch off and on at 3 o'clock in the
morning. Every morning. I think I shall probably do this when I go on
holiday.
