ZyXEL p660r-d1 blocking port 80
Hi,
I wonder if anyone can help me out. I recently bought a ZyXEL P660R-D1
dsl modem to replace the dynamode modem I had originally bought from
AAISP (it finally packed in after running very hot for months).
since installing the zyxel, port 80 on all my ip's appears to be
filtered by the zyxel?!
The zyxel has nat turned off and just provides an external link for my
openwrt router. The only thing thats changed is the zyxel, everything
else is the same, and it worked fine with the dynamode.
The other ports I have open work fine it's just port 80.
I've tried changing the port that the zyxel web interface runs on, not
that this should make any difference since it's a completely different
ip, but to no avail.
The zyxel web interface doesn't mention anything about a firewall/
filtering, but it definately seems to be filtering somewhere along the
line.
Can anyone shed some light on this issue? It's annoying to run http on
port 81.
Alternatively if you've seen a user manual for the cli around that
would help me investigate further.
Thanks in advance.

It SHOULDN'T make a difference, but sadly, on some consumer routers, it
does.
They do a check for all incoming port 80 and direct it to its own web
server.
I know you have tried on another port, but have you tried disabling
access to the admin interface remotely?
You may also want to try a port forward to see if that does anything (I
know you aren't using NAT, but the router is crap enough that it may
just work...

I'm fairly sure on a P-660R this is the case, I vaguely remember having to
hack around it until I replaced the unit.

They are. More than port 80 is filtered, but can't remember which.
Telnet to the router and do:
wan node index 1
wan node filter incoming tcpip 0 0 0 0
wan node save

Go to the "Remote management" menu on the configuration web pages, set all
"Access status" entries to "LAN only", and click "Apply". If you don't do
this, not only are incoming ports 21, 23 and 80 blocked, but anyone can get
into the router from outside using the default password (assuming you haven't
changed it) and change your configuration.

Re: ZyXEL p660r-d1 blocking port 80
Hi
I hope you can help me, I have a zyxel p660r-d1, and having seen your

Im not very good with technical so please bear with me.
Im downloading @ 4.5kbs (average) so it takes me days to get anything near
complete. I see from your page that you may be the guy to put me right, you
say go to "Remote Management" set all "access status" entries to LAN ONLY
AND CLICK APPLY.
my question is where do I find this "Remote Management"
I have tried port forwarding but to no avail, my os is win xp home edition
500 hard drivr, 2 gb memory
Thanks for your time

Hi,
telnet into the router and type:-
wan node index 1
wan node filter incoming tcpip 0 0 0 0
wan node save
Don't copy and paste this into the telnet window. you must type it in.

Re: ZyXEL p660r-d1 blocking port 80
Hi Carl
maybe im stupid but i still dont understand, i did go into my ms-dos and
typed <"telnet"> and it came back with a whole load of info, my problem is,
like i said earlier im not very good on technical + i have a fear of making
a complete ba&&&*lls of it. This router was supplied along with the package
so am i right in assuming that the provider has control over my router?
Thanks for your help and understanding.

Sorry I haven't seen all the details of who your provider is, but
assuming AAISP or most other providers then the answer is no - the ISP
just includes the router as a "free gift", maybe setting some of the
settings for you.
Once you get it they have no access (most routers only have access from
within your network enabled by default, with no access to change things
from the Internet).

Re: ZyXEL p660r-d1 blocking port 80
Hi Stuart,
thanks for your comments, my friend next door tells me go to
192.168.1.1 and configuire my router and when it comes up it tells its
password protected, so back to sq 1, which i assume also means that they are
throttling the router, to slow down downloads(right?)
it was supplied as a freeby, but when I installed it ,it came with no
software, it was a case of do this do that and away you go, my supplier was
Kingston commuinications
but then I moved from Hull to an area near selby, and now my mail server is
Eclipse (part of Kingston )if you need more info then please let me know.

It will, you need that password the supplier of the router should have
given it to you, may be on a bit of paper <shock horror>. If you can't
find the bit of paper get onto the orginal supplier and see if they have a
record of it.

Re: ZyXEL p660r-d1 blocking port 80
Hi Dave
Yes I suppose they do have the password but I cant see them
giving it to me as I want to unblock the port which they have set!! If it
was so easy surely everyone who is with the same setup would do it??

I think there is a lot of confusion here. You said the router was a
freebie from Kingston Communications but you are using it with another
supplier now you are near Selby. In that case how would your current
supplier know the password?
If they are throttling your line they will be doing it from their end.
To decide if that's the case we would need to know your line stats from
the router (I'm assuming it's a modem/router here), it may just be that
you have a bad line. Who is your ISP?
I'm near Tadcaster, if you are on the Tadcaster side of Selby I could
come over and have a look so email me at the address in my sig.

If all else fails there should be a hard reset switch hidden through a little
hole on the back which you press for about 10 seconds while the router is
powered on and which will will reset it back to its factory state, including
the default LAN IP address (usually 192.168.1.1) and password (usually 1234).
Then of course you would have to re-enter all of your own parameters, so it's
a good idea to be armed with the router's documentation (presumably available
on the web) before you do this.

Any ISP worth their salt that wanted to block a given port(*) would do it
on their routers that they have control of.
(*) ISPs that block ports for no good reason aren't worth their salt.

And your ADSL login and password, the ISP should supply that but I bet
those that want to tie you in don't unless pushed.

I was assuming, perhaps incorrectly, that the poster wanter to use a router
from an earlier ISP on an AAISP account, where as we know such subterfuge
doesn't happen.
