.com hostname point to dynamic dns home apache server
Hi
I currently pay around £10 a month to have my site hosted.
I would like to learn more about bind and apache, and pay less into the
bargain!
Is it possible to point my .com hostname at a dyndns hostname (where the
real ip address is updated regularly by my router). The dns service and
web service would run on my home pc. Then somehow apache on the home pc
would handle the incoming request and the requesting browser would still
show the original .com hostname (and not the dyndns hostname).
When someone types in my .com hostname, the hostname resolves to the
dyndns hostname (which is pointing at my home ip address running a bind
dns service)
That should also mean that I pay one payment a year to register the
hostname and the nameserver it is associated with?
Is this a pipe dream/not technically possible?
I know there isnt a secondary dns service and it isnt a reliable way to
work it but my site is very low traffic and is more there for me to
learn. I don't mind if it goes down for while if say I mess up the dns
config or apache dies.
Thanks for any help
