do any of the forced to resign members want to stand down?
===
Persons resigning from the Committee

Open Member Class:

Geoff Berrow
Mark Goodge
Alison Hopkins
===

do any of you want to leave?

it would be useful if you stated if you'd like to carry on.

yes, I know the clown thinks you carry on doing nothing, etc. but it
might help the broader public (there are only 7 people using usenet
these days, I know) if you gave an indication.

It's only Usenet, no one dies.
My opinions, not the committee's, mine.

If they are resigning, then obviously they don't want to carry on.

If you are quoting that, you should indicate that it is a quote and
where from.

If it is a quote, I suspect it means, and should be changed to indicate
so, "Persons whose current term of office is expiring".

The wording in the Committee Document [1] is "At each annual Committee
Election, all open members who have served a full 3 year term shall
retire from the Committee."

Having said that, it has been usual UKVoting practice to use the word
"resigning" since at least 1999, and I don't recall any comments on
choice of wording before.

Cheers,

Barry

I'm afraid the idiot's right in this case. If the Committee Document says
"retire", then that is the word that you should be using.

Since the Committee document days what it does not mean and means what
it does not say, it should not be quoted. Instead, its meaning should
be stated instead, in order that there be no chance of unnecessary
propagation of confusion.

And once again, in English this time?

Thank you for clearing up that potential confusion.

I didn't write that - it was the idiot Stockton.

I thought you lightly clarified it?

I lightly clarified his original point. Of the particular piece of gibberish
you quoted, I asked: "And once again, in English this time?"

My apologies for misquoting you, I can see why you would find the
association unflattering.

I've always wondered what the Stocktoniser's like in real life.. It makes
me hesitate to think that for all we know he could actually be a fairly
sound fellow (if a bit pompous) who just can't cope properly with the
written world of usenet.

Though, yes, I too usually find his additions irritating, it's just I've
never managed to delineate exactly *why*..
