PVR setup query
Hi
I hope you can give me some advice as I'm driving nearly 200 miles
tomorrow to my aged Father to set up a Humax 8000 PVR for him. He was
having terrible problems with his existing setup (see below) recording
from digital freeview to VHS and I suggested he buy a PVR, so in time
for my visit he's bought the Humax 8000 and has told me it's arrived but
he's expecting me to unpack it and install it so he can blame me if it
doesn't work. *Sigh*

His equipment is :
Bush integrated digital TV
LG DVD/VHS combi
Terrestrial aerial with digital signal

Could some kind soul pls confirm:
1.	Which bit do I plug the aerial into - TV or PVR?

2.	How should the scart leads run - he will only be using the DVD combi
for watching pre-recorded DVDs and old video tapes.

The trouble is that when you're on the floor with three different
manuals open in front of you, and a querulous old fella in the
background making "helpful" comments, it can get a big stressful.

Many thanks for any advice
Caagh

PVR.

DVD into the 8000. 8000 into the TV.

Both. The PVR first and then loop-through to the TV using the short RF
cable.

What a shame not to have purchased a twin-tuner model. These are much
better as they can record two things at once.

Two choices:

1) DVD scart 1 = PVR scart 2
PVR scart 1 = TV scart 1

2) DVD scart 1 = TV scart 2
PVR scart 1 = TV scart 2

Choice (1) allows for recording from the PVR and choice (2) may allow
for RGB on both, depending on the nature of the TV scarts.

AFAIK that PVR doesn't have RGB pass-through. If it does (especially
if you don't have RGB on both TV scarts) then you should use choice
(1). Switching will be automatic.

Really?!! no RGB pass through?! I thought everything would have that now,
since my old Goodman's STB does and my old Panny VHS does. My TV only has
RGB on scart 1 though making scart 2 pretty useless, especially for anything
with on screen graphics.

Correction: My old Goodmans STB doesn't have RGB pass-through. (It was just
that scart2 on the TV was much worse quality than scart1 for some reason,
even on composite). Looks like a scart splitter for me now.
