TiVo plays intro video a lot
I have a series 1 Thompson TiVo, which is still serving me well after
many years.
However, recently I've noticed that after watching a recording and
trying to return to the main menu, it will often play the introductory
video. It never used to do that.
This isn't a big deal (it's only one button-press to skip it, after
all), but I know that I have changed no settings and, unless my cats
are cleverer than I thought, neither has anyone else, so I'm wondering
what could cause this behaviour.
Anyone got any ideas?

Strange.
Ask on tivocommunity in the UK section.

This will happen after a reboot.
And a reboot will happen if there is no signal on the input SCART for a
few hours.
Do you have Sky?
You must disable the recently introduced "auto standby" feature to stop
this happening.
(Standby does not save any power on standard Sky boxes - only Sky+)

Odd. If I recall rightly there's a shortcut to play the boot animation
(TiVo followed by zero rings bells) so is it possible that the remote's
acting up and zero is sometimes firing when you press the TiVo button?
Alternatively, is it possible that your TiVo is rebooting more than
normal leading to the start animation playing? If you've got it
connected to a Sky box and the "Automatic Standby" feature has recently
downloaded (my old Thomson box got it a couple of weeks ago) then it's
possible that your Sky box is going into standby during the night. TiVo
treats an absence of video signal as a problem and after a period of no
signal will try rebooting itself. Turn off auto-standby and that problem
should go away.
If it's neither of those try asking at
http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/ - the TiVo UK section is probably
the best bet for Series 1.

The above opinions are mine, and Edinburgh University can't have them

The shotcut was removed many years ago with the last software update.

That appears to have been the culprit!
I disabled auto standby on my Sky box, and haven't seen the intro
movie since.
Thanks a bunch.
