Freesat
Anyone using a freesat PVR?

I'm interested to hear if existing Sky dishes can be used for Freesat and
what channels are broadcasting HD?

Cheers Steven.

Dish: you could try your existing sky dish ..Freesat
comes from the same place, (Astra at 28.2E).. and much
of it will download exactly as it does at the moment,
particularly the Free To Air (FTA) channels...

I think the general recommendation, however, is to use
a 60cm dish - which will also allow you access to the
benefit of HD..

..and to answer your HD question ..at the moment BBC1 HD
is apparently transmitting around here on ..ermm.. Freesat
Channel "1"!

(Not sure if ITV has just joined BBC with HD ..but that
was on the cards - or is on the cards - withing days
rather than a week or so).

Hope helps - and, in a such a new environment - isn't
unhelpful.. :))

BBC HD is on Freesat 108.

You don't need any more signal to receive HD. The HD channels simply take up
more transponder space, the received transport stream BER should not be
affected just because there's an HD channel there.

BBC HD shares the same transponder at BBC 1 Cambridge and BBC 1 Channel
Islands, if you can receive either of those SD BBC channels, you should also
get BBC HD (with an HD box of course !)

However, a 60cm dish is always a good idea, for robust reception during
monsoon conditions.

Thanks all. I already have a Sky dish up and living in Scotland I'm sure we
had to have a 60cm dish in the first place.
I'll need to look into it further.

Cheers

Steven.

If you do, watch out that you don't bang your chin on the LNB.
