Poor JPEG display quality from a DMR-EX77
I've transferred some pictures (as JPEGs) from my digital camera to a
Panasonic DMR-EX77 by putting the SD card into the slot and copying the
files onto the HDD. The picture size is 3648 x 2736 which is big but within
the stated capabilities of the Panasonic. When the pictures are displayed
they look like they're very low resolution or have been compressed too much
in the JPEG process. When the files are viewed on a PC (at 1600 x 1200) they
look perfect.
The DMR-EX77 is connected to an HD Ready LCD TV via an HDMI cable. The
Panasonic HDMI connection is set to 'Auto' which is supposed to select the
best HD format to use based on what the TV can cope with. If I manually set
this, it doesn't make any difference whether 1080i, 720p or 576p etc are
selected, the pictures look the same i.e. bad.
I don't know what's going on here so if anyone has any bright ideas, I'd be
glad to hear them. TIA.
Rog.

I'd suspect the DMR-EX77 just has a very poor resampling algorithm built
in. try resizing them first with a decent image manipulation program on a
PC (I use Irfanview) to a size closer to the native resolution and see
what happens.
