Though this site is dedicated to the TUTV element
it also covers everything else about the Thomson,
upgrades, tips, twaeks, troubleshooting etc
http://www.ukkafka.co.uk/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=49&sid=ce421a79615198f88a274bf759fd50fd

It is an excellent machine and that is indeed a bargain
price for such a well spec machine, but the Humax will
also probably drop dramatically in price as it's replacement
is now out.
But the Thomson is a goodie and £99 is a good price.
But for me, purely a subjective view, but It's not a
goodlooker, it dosen't have the external hi-tech sexiness
of either the Toppy or the Humax.

I saw that, but Tescos had them at 79.97, better guarantee and
vouchers for about a fiver off their petrol. Bought one on Nov 1st, a
week later all gone. Suggest you check there before buying. Oh, and
they didn't even want my address for the tv licensing people. not that
they would have got a real address anyway.

Nope.

Have you found anything easy to use these days?
Mine locks up for no apparent reason. I'm a techie, so I started
debugging with the usual wriggle all the connectors, press every
button in sight, power it off & on, press every button etc. I have to
power down, fiddle with the remote, press a button on the box, fiddle
with the remote and eventually the green light comes on and its OK.
So far I haven't determined the exact sequence that brings it up, if I
make no progress then its going back. About a dozen lock ups so far.
It's just about usable to me, mum wouldn't stand a chance.

Can anyone help with this?

Yup. Well, at least there's button to trade off one against the
other, haven't found sufficient watchable stuff to fill it up yet.

I was going to ask this question in a separate post, but I'll tag it
on here as it's relevant to your post..

One other thing puzzles me, can anyone help?

There is an "info" button to provide a program synopsis. If I click
it in the EPG nothing happens. If I select an item to record, then it
works on the "planned recordings" screen. Bloody irritating to have
to record, then delete rather than having the info at decision time,
particularly with the dumb EPG titles like "An evening with Jo" and
his name is truncated.

Is this particular to this model or do they all do it? Can't see any
good reason why it is available in one mode but not the other.

Regards,

David P.
