TiVos internal analogue UHF tuner specially records old style teletext
page 888 subtitles to the hard drive, and will replay them to your
analogue teletext TV.

If you are using an external source like a freeview box or satellite /
cable / tiscali tv decoder, you can display the subtitles and record
them "in picture", but whether your external source will remember this
setting when TiVo is changing channels is ... ???

Do as normal when watching normal teletext subtitles. Start the TiVo
recorded programme playing, press the teletext button on your TV remote
and key 888.

I think you're missing the point.. the Tivo records the subtitles data
stream along with the picture - so when it replays it to the TV it also
replays the subtitle data stream. If you press the text button while it's
playing back you get the recorded text as you would have while it was
being broadcast.

It doesn't matter what you watch while it's recording - it records the
subtitle data (and all the rest of teletext) as well, so it will still be
there when you play it back.

This is different to most recorders, AIUI. Analogue VCRs used to record
the teletext as well, but not with enough quality that you could
realistically play it back later.
