Anyone tried to clone a PVR hard drive?
I'm upgrading my hard drive. To keep existing programs I would like to
clone the old drive using Norton Ghost or Acronis True Image or similar.
PVRs use a totally non standard format (compared to computers) and I'm not
sure if this will work. Anyone tried it?

Which PVR?
You'd need one that supports the correct file system or does a block by
block copy

This is for a Thomson DHD4000. I guessed I'd need a raw 'bit' copier.
Someone said the file system is OTVFS.
The other reply suggests Acronis can do a raw copy which may be my answer.

Not all of them. For example, the Dreamboxes use standard EXT2 or EXT3.
There are other Linux-based PVRs on the market (for example, those OEM'd
by Marusys under different brand names) which might use a standard Linux
filesystem as well.

But then the OTVFS will copy the partition byte for byte and the
partition will remain the same size. This might stop you using any extra
space on a new bigger drive.

Re: Anyone tried to clone a PVR hard drive?
It seems that Acronis TrueImage 11 refuses to clone the drive. It sees the
source drive as unallocated space and refuses to copy it. Obviously the
format used is totally unrecognised by TrueImage. It doesn't even offer the
option of sector-by-sector.
