Good PVR for skipping adverts
Hi
Could someone recommend a PVR that's good for skipping adverts.
I need a dual tuner with a large hard drive and HD ready for under
£200 please.
Thanks

Think this might be divorced within the thread..?
I've used a number of DVD recorders of various cost
and qualities - and a couple of HDD PVRs..
None of them have an 'automatic' advert skip on
playback - although not the ability to skip adverts
whilst recording...
The DVD recorders usually have a configurable shift
forward (as it were) in blocks of around 30 seconds
to three minutes.
Of the HDD PVRs, one - the Pace Twin ..(and yes, for
Pace techie info, it still works!).. has a simple block
forward shift in approx one minute increments. Despite
it's extraordinary picture and continuing support, it
is no longer a current model, but may still be picked
up in sales and so on...
The other, sharing the same piccie quality and a very
user friendly, most recent and comprehensive Freeview
Playback standard is Tesco's recently introduced and
current Techniks AEDTR160S7 (from Tesco at 119.87gbp).
It has a forward block shift of around two minutes..
Although shifting in two minute blocks might seem excesive,
in practise it seems to allow most advert breaks to be
skipped in a couple, occasionally three, clicks - and
presents no problem in doing so..
hh :))

Thanks for your reply Bill
A simple block shift is all I really need.
Do I need a machine with HDMI capability or will the machines
recommended on here so far still "work" in 5 years time?

They should all still work up to and past DSO, but none of them will
ever be capable of receiving HD broadcasts. Until Ofcom makes up its
mind what form those will take (hopefully early next year)
manufacturers won't be able to plan easily for HD.
There's been some talk of moving the whole of Freeview to a newer
standard, but that's a long term project, which will likely begin with
HD and take some years after DSO.
