IR Code for skyplus 160 (Tivo)
Hi all,
You have all been so helpful, I thought I would ask another question...
I read on Tivo community yesterday that if you put in the IR code for
Grundig 20016 - this will turn the sky box on before changing the channel.
I have a Thomson Sky+160 box and I have tried to do this but it is not
working.
I rang the Tivo helpline and they advised to use Pace 20010 - this does turn
the channel over but it won't turn on the box first.
Is there a code that will turn the sky+ box on before turning over the
channel? I would hate to leave the sky plus box on all night because
a) The noise
b) Sky turn it off automatically at night anyway and would miss programmes
on in the middle of the night.
Also, my tivo box lives in the bedroom - so I would find it hard to sleep if
the sky plus box was on all night - it is too bloomin noisy!
Any help would be great!!
Thanks loads in advance.

Re: IR Code for skyplus 160 (Tivo)
Going back to basics, I am puzzled as to why you would want to record
onto the TiVo. Why not just use the sky Plus for recording, as it was
intended?
The remote codes for a Sky Plus and a standard Sky box are different
so if the TiVo doesnt have codes for Sky plus, there probably isn't
much you can do about it.
Why not set a reminder on the Sky Plus and set it as automatic (red
button)? That will switch the box on and put it on the right channel.
Finally, the auto switch off can be disabled on the menus if
required.......Many people have Sky fed to other rooms without magic
eye control and have found the auto switch off to be a pain if they
like to wake up and switch the tv on to see a Sky channel.
You can also achieve the same thing by setting the manual timer to
switch on just before you want it.

The Sky+ uses different IR codes than standard Sky boxes. Use 20017 for
a Sky+ with the "Sky" buttonpress to turn it on; 20010 is the non-Sky
button version. The best list of codes for set-top boxes of all kinds
can be found at http://www.garysargent.co.uk/tivo/stb.htm

The above opinions are mine, and Edinburgh University can't have them

Re: IR Code for skyplus 160 (Tivo)
Hi,
The reason I am using the Tivo again is because it is far superior to the
crap that sky gives us. I am constantly finding that the series link drops
off on sky which means I miss programmes I want to watch. The sky interface
is very basic and sky needs to learn a few lessons from Tivo!
Other reasons for getting Tivo are:
Better interface than sky plus - a joy to use
Fantastic search engine to find programmes you want to see
Two weeks of listings to search through
Better quality recordings
Tivo Suggestions - records programmes I might want to see
It is a million times better than sky plus - its only downside is that it
can only record one programme at a time - but this is not a major issue for
me.
Thanks for taking the time to reply and giving me some options to work with.
Very helpful.
Cheers

Well I just meant that you can actually *choose* what setting you want to
record in rather that just having one record quality setting no matter what
:0)
I was trying to big up the Tivo :0)

AutoView (red button) is on the standard Digibox only, not Sky Plus.
