None of the methods did anything, the 'menu' method resulted in the machine sitting all night
 with a static download progress bar. Soon cured with a power cycle.
Looks like the 'tech tricks'  aren't standard across PVRs, & that I should have checked the dtg
site for download dates as suggestet by Mr. Rae (only read after I'd tried the 'menu method' unfortunately).
Alternatively, how does one pursuade the box to communicate with a PC ia the RS232 port?
