Just considering buying a Topfield TF5800PVR from John Lewis but wondered if
there is likely to be a replacement model out in the next couple of
weeks/months.
This usually happens when I eventually buy in to a technology (I got rid of my
Phillips V2000 machine a few years ago...)

I can't see why there would be a new model, the existing one works
great, and until the HDTV issue is worked out, I can't see the need
for a new one.

I was wondering about them bringing out a wireless-connected model similar to
their TF6000PVR. My computer isnot in the same room as the TV etc so USB is a
bit difficult (and I have a wireless network).

Using something like the NSLU2 is the generally accepted work around for 
this.

£250. Checked via the web site that they were in stock and drove 10 miles to the
store. Nothing on display so asked the assistant in the TV area if they had a
Topfield PVR. He starts looking at the kettles - so I said no, its a topfield
personal video recorder. He says is that a top-loader? I said no, that is the
manufacturer. I told him about their lying website and drove back home to email
their customer services. The web site still says they are in-stock at this

I was trying to read all the spec on the label of a Tosh widescreen when I 
was 'helpfully' interupted by one of the afforementioned.
He felt it his duty to tell me that 'HE' had just reduced its price and now 
would be absolutely the best time to buy.
I explained my situation that I would be looking at a Sony or Tosh LCD as 
soon as my old set coughs its last, and added my expectation that 'HE' would 
probably have had to reduce it some more by then.
"OH NO, they aren't ever going to get any cheaper than this!"
We had to agree to disagree on that one, after all twenty five years in the 
trade can't compete with the ignorance imparted by one or two sales 
pep-talks.

I had a conversation a couple of weeks back with one of their sales monkeys. 
I was trying to read all the spec on the label of a Tosh widescreen when I 
was 'helpfully' interupted by one of the afforementioned.
He felt it his duty to tell me that 'HE' had just reduced its price and now 
would be absolutely the best time to buy.
I explained my situation that I would be looking at a Sony or Tosh LCD as 
soon as my old set coughs its last, and added my expectation that 'HE' would 
probably have had to reduce it some more by then.
"OH NO, they aren't ever going to get any cheaper than this!"
We had to agree to disagree on that one, after all twenty five years in the 
trade can't compete with the ignorance imparted by one or two sales 
pep-talks.

I can't see why there would be a new model, the existing one works
great, and until the HDTV issue is worked out, I can't see the need
for a new one.

their TF6000PVR. My computer isnot in the same room as the TV etc so USB is a
bit difficult (and I have a wireless network).
