Slightly OT - Freeview Interactive Services on Samsung LE37R8 TV
Hi,

My old man has just bought a Samsung LE37R8 TV - a 37 inch LCD set which
includes analogue and Freeview tuners.

We've found one slight problem with the Freeview set-up - we can't access
the Interactive services (i.e. the "Teletext" pages of DTV) which you
normally enter by pressing the Red button on BBC1, BBC2, BBC News 24 etc.
etc. I've tried the Text button as well as the Red one - but neither works.

Does anyone know how to access these? (Their is an option to enable/disable
these in the DTV settings menu - so I assume that the set is capable of
displaying these).

PS - Channel 105 is called BBCi, but going there asks you to press the Red
button - which results in a plain BBC1 picture without the text, so that
doesn't work either.

Is your 'old man' perhaps a bit mutt & jeff and uses subtitles? Red
blobbery doesn't work on DVB-T for some reason when subtitles are
enabled. A decent decoder will switch them off, or invite you to do so,
when you press 'text' or 'red'. Others just do nothing.

If you have subtitles enabled when visiting p105, you get exactly the
action you have described.

Re: Slightly OT - Freeview Interactive Services on Samsung LE37R8 TV
Alan,

Thanks for the reply.

Yes, your exactly right about his deafness - the first thing we did on
buying the set was to turn the sub-titles on for him, and just left them on
all the time. I tried it tonight (see below) and it works fine with the
subtitles turned off.

BTW - Samsung replied to my question today. One additional cause of
confusion, on the Samsung its the "Text/Mix" button instead of the Red
button.

Bob,

The two are interchangeable on most boxes. Or maybe it's the
broadcasters who map both keys to the same function. Either way, you can
usually use Text or Red to call up both BBCi and the so-called
interactive programmes.

And you can usually dispatch the red blob with the green button,
although it won't appear in the first place with subtitles on.
