I think I'll start pixel perfect and peraps add a tiny gausson blur if
I think it needs it.

Another update...
<http://www.bgn.me.uk/TestCardInProgress2.png>
Those annoying vertical lines are now exactly as they should be, the
first set is now one pixel black, one pixel white then two pixels
black, two pixels white... until the largest set.
Everything that touches the edge of the image is now redrawn and
recoloured and is currently sharp to one pixel, no anti-aliasing. The
gradients in each corner have been colour matched and re-gradiented to
get rid of the MPEG compression and I really must remove the one pixel
wide lines from the bottom set of colours which I keep forgetting to
do.
All in all it's looking quite good just needing something to be done
to four circles. I can't be arsed to sort out the grey boxes, there's
no need to have them uber-sharp.
Any other suggestions before I finish it off?

So you've made the frequency sweep square waves instead of sine waves?
The original transparency test card F had square waves, but the digital
one had sine waves, as do cards J and W.

The SkyHD test card had lines on it, not sine waves. :o)

The SkyHD test card isn't the original test card F, J or W.

1080 HD Test card
Hello all.
You (may) be pleased to find below a 1080 version of the SkyHD test
card which I've fettled, recoloured and redrawn over the last couple
of days to remove MPEG and JPEG compression jubblies.
The 'fixed' finished article is available to download here:
<http://www.bgn.me.uk/SkyHDTestCardFixed.png>
After 'remastering' it I had a search on Google Images and Flickr
which suggests that this is currently the highest quality and sharpest
(no anti-aliasing in my corrections) 1080 line test card freely
available to the public.
Those of you with large screen HDTV's might wish to throw the image at
your xbox 360 if you want to see how well you telly stands up to
inspection.
If you have any suggestions or queries please drop me an email. If
you find a better quality HD test card then good for you, if you want
to modify this card then feel free - all I've done is given it a good
tidy it up so it's of a decent quality :)
Please try not to distribute the test card with 'lossy' compression,
but I understand that some of you will have to convert it to a JPEG or
similar to get it near you telly - if that's all you can do then
compress it at the highest quality you can (largest file size) and
don't squint too hard.
