Sky+ HD lockup
New Sky+ HD box (2 months). Last night could not get recorded programmes to
play - got to the start screen but then dead. After switching of at wall and
letting it reboot all seems well - but should I be worried. There are some
programmes I would not like to lose - I have a DVD-hard disk recorder and
could transfer if this would be a wise move
Thanks,
Gordon

It is always wise to have a backup of anything of value that is stored on
a hard disk.

Re: Sky+ HD lockup
It was probably a one-off - but you could have a hardware problem
with your receiver.
Or it could be a repeat of the software glitch that affected many
Sky+ receivers from 2007 onwards - which occurred when
broadcasters transmitted incorrect EPG data, which played havoc
with Series Link on many channels.

In the meantime, it would be sensible to transfer important
recordings to alternative media.

I would say as long as it rebooted reasonably well then it is probably
just a crash. If it was a very long reboot or there were any strange
noises like clicking then I'd be tempted to worry. If you do really
want to keep stuff for a while it is probably best to transfer them
anyway, then you have no worry about losing them.

Get used to it. My Sky+HD box (Samsung) crashes a couple of times a month.
What make box have you got?
