Loss in signal at times
Hi,
I have a bit of a strange setup not so strange just that I have about 6
meters of cable from the dish to my box and was wondering would this length
cause poor reception ?
The sky installer said it was the only way it could be wires up.

What does the service menu show for signal quality and
strength?
How long has it been installed?
Did it work ok when first installed?
What do you mean by poor reception, freezing of
picture, no signal messages?
Does heavy precipitation make it worse?

One minute you have reception and gettin a good picture, then theres a
freeze, distortion followed bu no signal message.

Sounds like dish alignment, with moisture in
the coax as another possibility.
Properly installed coax should be waterproofed,
but this isn't always the case.
Services menu has signal test showing
signal quality, and signal strength, as a bar graph.
It would be useful to know what yours shows.
Below 75% of signal quality bargraph and
it's worth having the dish alignment checked.

Theres no self amalgamating tape on the outside f connector. There is some
electrical tape though which is falling off.
My strength shows just over 60% and quality about 70%

Unless the outside F connector has been waterproofed, either with
lashings of silicone grease and a boot, or (properly) with self
amalgamating tape, it's very likely that you've got water ingress.

That looks reasonable. Quality (bit error rate) is the important one.
In the Manchester area today, we've been having torrential rain. At one
point it was so bad that a mobile call I was making dropped out due to
rain fade. When it's like that, even a setup with a large dish may be
struggling.
