Planner Rebuid - how?
My Nov '06 Sky+ box (a Pace) is playing up:

- Choosing to view a recorded program results in no response
- -"- results in a frozen screen with a picture on the last image viewed
when watching the last recorded program.
- Frozen box altogether.

All the above only happens occasionally, and only started a month ago or so.
A reset (unplugging from mains and plugging again) seem to fix it in
general.

As we have been great fans of the recording feature over the last year and a
half, I thought that it would make sense to try to rebuild the planner
before I try anything else as suggested on this group in the past.

My problem is that I cannot find how to do it. It was suggested to go to the
Installer's Menu (Services, 4, 0, 1, Select). but after pressing 4, there is
no '0' option, and just pressing '0' on the remote has no effect.

Help please...

Your problem is wanting things to happen on intermediate key presses!
Just press the key sequence - nothing happens on the "0,1,Select" part
of it - until the sequence is complete and the "Installers Menu" should
appear.

Don't just press '0'. Press '0', '1', Select.

Yup. After Services don't scroll down to 4 then look for 0, just hit
Services, the button 4 on your remote then 0,1,select.

You were not told to press 4 and wait for a 0 option, you were told to
press 4, 0, 1, Select - i.e. a sequence of four presses. Give it a try.

Wouldn't it be better to describe the methodology as "input 401 and
then press select", just as one would do is wanting to select a
channel?

If they can't follow simple instructions like "Press Services, 4, 0,
1, Select" then really there's no point wasting anymore time on them.

Yes, it would. Including commas implies three separate options with a
pause between them, when it's actually a single option that happens to
have a multi-digit number.

But writing it like that make it look like it is meant to be separate
inputs, you don't say channel 0,1,1,5 when telling someone what LCN
BBC World service is on, people will just write input 0115 and then
press "select".

<grabs remote> On my ancient Pace box, which is hooked up to my TiVo,
hitting Services 401 Select quickly as if keying in a channel number
doesn't work as it takes a couple of seconts for services to come up
meaning the box has forgotten I've pressed 4 and 0 by the time it's
come up which is why Services, 4, 0, 1, Select is a better way of
presenting it.

If someone is confused by the instructions to press the key sequence:

Services, 4, 0, 1, Select

What is to prevent them being confused when told to press:

Services, 401, Select?

There is, after all, no "401" key. Nothing will appear to confirm they
have input "401" either.

It's a bit like people asking where the "any" key is...

The fact that there is no apparant pause indicated between the digits.

That doesn't stop people being able to select channel 401.

It will when they press select.

The Installer menu is actually selection "01" off the System Setup
menu.

To be strictly correct, the sequence should be described as:

Press Services then 4 to get to the System Setup menu.

Now press buttons in the sequence 0, then 1, then Select, to get to the
hidden Installer Setup menu. You won't see anything happen on screen
until after you've pressed Select.

You can arrive at System Setup by any route including Backup from a sub-
menu. It is the rest of the sequence which needs to be entered with
eyes closed.

Usenet never fails to surprise me! People discussing how to push certain
buttons on a remote control is just brilliant!!! :-)
