Appropriate stand for an LCD TV
I am shortly to take delivery of a 32" Sony Bravia TV for use with my
Sky system, replacing my old CRT set, but am wondering if my existing
corner unit will be okay for accommodating it. The set will be
slightly wider than the unit, but the unit will nevertheless be wider
than the TV's base. It is also wood and very solid. Would I be
correct in assuming that the set will rest fine on this, as long as it
is wider than the set's base?

I would think your existing corner unit would be perfect. I assume your new
set will have a pedestal stand.

Re: Appropriate stand for an LCD TV
Should be fine.
I've just done a similar thing - Samsung 32" LCD on my old JVC base unit. I
only found one problem, the LCD is so much lighter that I could picture
myself knocking it off the stand if I brushed past it (its on natural
walkway in my house). To be safe, I threaded some tie-wraps through the LCD
stand and have locked it down to the base.

Absolutely. Those TVs are way lighter than the CRT ones.

As a Brit I'd like to thank the Americans for their help in the war
against terror because if they'd not funded the IRA for 30 years, we
wouldn't know how to deal with terrorists.

The Sony's provide a nylon strap and screw for that very purpose.

Had my 40 inch Sony on a glass stand for well over a year now. So far it
hasn't fallen flat on it's face - and I don't expect it to anytime soon.
Ergo, "safety" strap = OTT.
