UKRocketry.com Appology
I have run UKRocketry.com since it's early incarnation in around 2001.
Originally I wanted to use it to learn a little more about web construction
and have a place to display some pictures and videos of the awesome rockets
that we were flying in the UK.
At the height of UKR the number of hits on the website were phenomenal from
all over the world especially just after major events such as UKRA and KLOB,
during those early days there weren't really that many website to promote
what we were doing over here.
Unfortunately over the years the number of DOS attacks on the website has
caused me to reconsider even hosting the website. The latest attack
exploited a vulnerability in the forum and a number of registered members
have emailed me today with complaints from spamming by my website.
This I can only apologise for.
I have pulled from the website all current members, forums, small adds and
user logons. I do not intend on re-instating these features. To be honest
they hadn't been used a great deal in recent times.
The domain renewal is coming up soon and I will decide then on whether to
continue hosting UKR and LARF-Rocketry or not.
If anyone has any opinion on this matter and would like to see UKR and LARF
Rocketry remain please feel free to contact me.
Thanks
Damian

Don't let them get to you Damian, just sweep up and patch where
necessary and continue. It's always a shame where you get the donkey few
causing trouble the majority's pleasure.

It would be sad to see any UK rocketry site die, but if maintaining it is
causing you grief then why bother? Life is too short to spend patching and
securing if you aren't getting paid for it ;)

It would be sad to see any UK rocketry site die, but if maintaining it is
causing you grief then why bother? Life is too short to spend patching and
securing if you aren't getting paid for it ;)

When I was getting started in this hobby several of the UK websites,
yours included, were absolutely invaluable. I can still remember being
new to this (which in many ways I still am :)) and words which seem to
you like ramblings are invaluable to someone trying to get their head
around stuff.
However I too run a public internet server or four and I know first hand
the headaches that come with it. If it's taking too much time/effort to
keep it running rather than stress about it ask around here for a
hosting volunteer. There's plenty of us running other websites and
static content is negligible impact on a site which has to be running
for other reasons.
