Re: Rocketry in the UK
So basically you don't seem to have any good stuff as no one has responed, this is probably why your newsgroup has dropped in traffic.
No sensible content apart from people wanting to have a go at someone, (What was that latin really about?)
Do you have to resort to abuse to rocketry related questions or is it a UK centric newsgroup and outsiders regardless of age, religion, sex or profession are not welcome?

The fact of the matter is that most of us are fed up with people using false
names, auto-remailers and any other method of hiding their identity whilst
having a free pop at the rest for whatever reason. If you really have been
reading the posts for as long as you claim then you would have understood
our reluctance. You may be a perfectly nice guy - how are we to tell? Too
often we have been "bitten" by the "Anonymous Senders", "George Orwells"
and "Nomes Nescios" on this newsgroup to get too involved. How can you
convince us that you have a genuine interest? Perhaps by turning up at one
of the various meetings and introducing yourself, showing the name behind
the false front? You never know - that might just work! Try looking at the
UK websites that are linked to on this newsgroup on a regular basis and you
might even find the dates and times of the meetings.
You have to admit, for some one who is able to sort out proxy sites and
re-mailers, to then claim that they are unable to find the basic information
that is on open view to any schoolboy who wants to find it, it does rather
ring a little false. Likewise, for someone who uses a nom de plume like
"Nomes Nescio", to complain about a bit of Latin used to raise a point,
leaves much to be explained, n'est pas?
By the way, the "good stuff" is out there, fully documented, and backed up
with plenty of imagery to prove it. If we had an idea of where your
particular interests lay, we would be better able to point you in the right
direction. And that is NOT taking a dig at you - merely suggesting a
solution to your apparent lack of direction.

I responded with comments about how well the UK is good at club launches
and increasing numbers of flyers. I also mentioned "The Rocket Men"
which is currently the most active group of BIG STUFF flyers.
Their is no web site for "The Rocket Men" but everyone knows what is
happening because it has been discussed in UTR, Hybrid Yahoo Mailing
List and also I presume TRF.
However there are plenty of club websites for you to view, many links in
people's signatures here in UTR or even visit

Nope, it's because most people (AFAIK) including myself are now
beginning to prefer the forum system on our UKRA website as we deal only
with UKRA members and not any Tom, Dick or Harry coming into UTR
spouting trash and abuse as has been the case several times this year,
with even one non-UK person physically taking the Michael out of a UK
rocket flyer because his brother had died. That was sick!

There is good stuff. Search google or YouTube or your bitorrent of
choice for Top Gear Mini ski jump or Top Gear space shuttle. That is
what some UK guys are doing. Unfortunately as others have already
pointed out as their flights appear on TV they are obliged not to
discuss their latest projects on public forums until after the show
the rockets are on has aired.
In answer to the who are Damian and Colin and who are the Rocketmen
the answer is Damian and Colin are the Rocketmen. They dont have a
website. The do get up to the big stuff you will find if you search as
suggested in my opening paragraph.
The group has always been fairly quiet but of late the arrival of web
based forums like The Rocketry Forum http://www.rocketryforum.com/ and
the new forum on the United Kingdom Rocketry Association
http://www.ukra.org.uk/ web site have taken a lot of traffic away from
here. We are all still gassing about rockets just maybe not here as
much as in the past.

No but you have posted after a recent flame war and folks are a little
sensitive and wary of new posters. Especially those with anonymised
names. Also this is usenet and usenet can be a tad on the "vigorous"
side. Both are reasons why some posters now use other forums.

what some UK guys are doing.

Nope, it's because most people (AFAIK) including myself are now
beginning to prefer the forum system on our UKRA website as we deal only
with UKRA members and not any Tom, Dick or Harry coming into UTR
spouting trash and abuse as has been the case several times this year,

If we had an idea of where your
particular interests lay, we would be better able to point you in the right
direction. And that is NOT taking a dig at you - merely suggesting a
solution to your apparent lack of direction.

and increasing numbers of flyers. I also mentioned "The Rocket Men"
which is currently the most active group of BIG STUFF flyers.
Their is no web site for "The Rocket Men" but everyone knows what is
happening because it has been discussed in UTR, Hybrid Yahoo Mailing

However there are plenty of club websites for you to view, many links in

The group has always been fairly quiet but of late the arrival of web

the new forum on the United Kingdom Rocketry Association
http://www.ukra.org.uk/ web site have taken a lot of traffic away from

No but you have posted after a recent flame war and folks are a little
sensitive and wary of new posters. Especially those with anonymised
names. Also this is usenet and usenet can be a tad on the "vigorous"
side. Both are reasons why some posters now use other forums.

However there are plenty of club websites for you to view, many links in
people's signatures here in UTR or even visit
http://www.ukra.org.uk/links/view/all/1

Nope, it's because most people (AFAIK) including myself are now
beginning to prefer the forum system on our UKRA website as we deal only
with UKRA members and not any Tom, Dick or Harry coming into UTR
spouting trash and abuse as has been the case several times this year,
with even one non-UK person physically taking the Michael out of a UK
rocket flyer because his brother had died. That was sick!
> Do you have to resort to abuse to rocketry related questions
I did not.

Sorry you are dissapointed by our apparent lack of ambition. Could be
there isnt much on at the moment?

Try
http://www.translation-guide.com/free_online_translators.php?from=Latin&to=English
and decode it yourself. It was a humourous dig at the person who
posted with a latin anonymous name.

No but you have posted after a recent flame war and folks are a little
sensitive and wary of new posters. Especially those with anonymised
names. Also this is usenet and usenet can be a tad on the "vigorous"
side. Both are reasons why some posters now use other forums.
hope this helps

Have some photos: http://www.nialloswald.co.uk/gallery/v/Rocketry/
Should give you an idea of the sort of stuff people have been up to in
the last few years.

Yes.
