Re: Dihydrogen Monoxide
> 2H2 + O2 -> 2H2O
Of course, I wrote the wrong equation! I was watching TV and not
paying attention. I meant to back up my argument with:
H+ + OH- -> H2O
Derr, I'll try and pay attention to what I'm writing next time
I'm talking about hydrogen hydroxide (heh heh). Or protium protoxide
or maybe protium deuteroxide or deuterium deuteroxide or tritium...
you get the picture.
I did some neutron scattering work at Rutherford Appleton Laboratory
on water and ice. I was just a PhD student assisting a post-doc, but
it was interesting. The phase diagram of water is complex! I remember
getting some water of some isotopic make-up (it's important with neutron
scattering), putting it in a pressure cell, and squeezing the living crap
out of it, and you could tell when it was changing phase because you'd
pump and pump to jack up the pressure, and then suddenly, it would get
easier and you could just pump and pump and the pressure didn't really
change until the the phase transition was complete. Same with ice too.
