Satellite hunting
Just setting up my Zone 2 + Quad LNB.

I was where I thought I should be and the signal meter showed a strong
signal but my new Bush receiver showed nothing.

Connected to my Panasonic TV and found I had a non-Freesat satellite.

From the channels I deduced I was on 19.2E.

Moved the dish about 10 degrees East and down a bit.

I now have another non-Freesat sattelite.

I have, for example, jazeerachildren on 369.

However I can't seem to Google the combination of channel 369 and the
channel jazeerachildren ( which comes up as on 823 on Sky).

Any idea which satellite I am on?

Can I trust the channel number given by the Panasonic?
Is it the 'real' number of the channel or just a count of how many found so
far?

I am looking for all satellites and all channels in the tuning menu.

Cheers

Bah!
Pah!
and likewise Pish!

Panasonic told me there was nothing there, I told it to have another look
and then it went 'Oh, perhaps there is after all'.

Now showing signal strength and quality at about 90% on the Bush.

There is no particular meaning to the channel numbers when not on
Freesat. Its just the order in which the receiver finds the channels.
The only reason that the Freesat channels come up in a particular
order is that the Freesat system and epg organises them for you. Also,
the reason that you have to feed in a postcode is that the correct
regional BBC and ITV progs come up on 101 and 103 etc.

Not quite true in my experience. My strongest freeview signal comes from
Midhurst, with Crystal Palace often breaking up. But the Bush Freesat HD
receiver insists that London is the "correct" region according to my
postcode. I suppose I could do a default-type retune with a false postcode
to get Meridian, but then I'd have to mess around manually retuning all the
non-freesat channels, and that takes ages.

I don't think a Freesat retune, affects the 'Non Freesat' channel settings,
but there's only one way to find out for sure !

By "correct" I dont necessarily mean "right" but correct to the wishes
of Freesat !

It is interesting that in some of my "patch" Sky boxes will set
themselves to Southern BBC and Western (HTV) ITV, or perhaps its the
other way around, I cant remember.
