Cheap alignment equipment
Now that the Daewoo Setpal boxes have ceased working it may be still
worth keeping them if you are installing your own aerial.
The box has a status facility that shows the transmitter name, all the
MUXs, signal strength and signal quality on a single screen. If you
receive broadcasts for more than one transmitter the information is also
shown on multiple status pages. These status pages are ideal for aerial
alignment/adjustment.

Unfortunately [on my boxes at least] all of that completely disappears once
one has been seduced by the on screen graphics inviting them to press 'yes'
to perform the last fatal rescan... However, the colour bars are still ok!
PS. a friend who has been sensible enough not to press 'yes' assures me that
his Setpal box is still working fine.

So does that mean then that its using a stored snap of the old data? Surely
when channels alter it will be mega confused. I'd have also thought that a
factory reset was possible that would get it to work, albeit incorrectly.

None of that works once you have rescanned for new channels. And if you
haven't yet rescanned you can still use the box for watching programmes.

My SetPal box is still working fine connected to my TiVo. It has auto-update
disabled and I haven't manually scanned yet.
It probably has a few channels missing compared to TiVo data, but I can't
imagine me ever wanting to record these, so currently not a problem.

It stores mux info (Frequencies etc), and info to identify the program
streams within the mux, aswell as a few other bits and pieces.
The status screen will only be confused if the Mux frequencies change,
the mux hopping status screen only looks at the COFDM registers and
tuner AGC. ie it doesn't matter what the data is in the mux.
The factory reset will just reset the NVM and you will need to retune,
which aparently breaks it.
