I was told that it was when the Romans ( who were the first force to invade
"England" ) the then inhabitants fled to the area we now call Wales -
Hence it is the SC4 watching Welsh who are the "Real English"

Is Bill (in his ex-teacher role) able to confirm this ?

Don't ask me. My teaching career is almost as long ago as the Roman
invasion.

That reminds me. I took my dad to have a look round the Merchant
Adventurers' Hall in York. This building has a great deal of 15th C woodwork
on display, which father peered at very closely. A curator looked at him
with curiousity. I whispered, "He was the Clerk of Works on this job. He's
just wondering how it's lasting."

Ahh, it was a good thing taking him there. He worked on large scale joinery
before and after the war, and he was fascinated. He was able to explain all
sorts of stuff about the woodwork. Interesting that some of the basic
techniques haven't changed in 600 years.

Read this:
http://www.scalefour.org/resources/Wagon%20shops.html

I'm very proud of him for writing this. He isn't a literary gent.
