Pinkish whites
I'm actually recording from a VHS recorder to a digital DVD/HDD
recorder.

Only when I play a VHS tape, the whites on my TV are a bit pinkish.

Can this be due to inexpensive scart cables?

I suppose it's a possibility eh?

It has nothing to do with the price of your Scart cables.

Just to clarify, I'm watching the TV as I record from the VHS recorder
to the HDD.

And I see the pink when I then play the HDD recorder.

This extra information makes no difference - I guess.

I never seemed to notice the pinkish-white before.

I'll track it down eventually.

Are the SCART cables in contact with the carpet?

It might be if the SCART cables are very thin, and he has a dark-red carpet.
I have been told it's possible for the colour to be picked up by the cable
if the insulation if very thin...
Try putting a piece of white paper between the carpet and the cable!

Yep, it would be better to modify some speaker cable elevators

But at £30 for 4, wouldn't he be better off spending the money on a
better quality SCART lead?

(£7.50 each for wooden spacers? There must be some really stupid people
out there!)

Russ Andrews wants £187 for a fully wired 1 metre SCART cable so the £30
for his cable elevators is exceptionally good value for money.

Anyone care to guess what is packaged up in:

Re: Pinkish whites
It sounds as though the output of the VCR is mismatched in some way to
the input expected by the DVD-R, perhaps because you have connected
S-Video out from the VCR to an RGB input on the DVD-R. S-Video
Chrominance and RGB Red share the same SCART pins:

... standing in for ...
http://www.cemh.eclipse.co.uk/JavaJive/AudioVisualTV/SCART/SCART.html

You may be able to correct this by either using a different socket, or
configuring the one you're using in the setup menus, to match the
output from the VCR. Take a close look at the DVD-R's manual
regarding the wiring of its sockets and their configuration in menus.
If you change the configuration away from RGB In, it'd probably be
best to restore the setting once the job is done.

If the cable is on the carpet then it needs to be good quality and
well insulated. Otherwise the carpet could be damaged by a salt water
leak next time you watch Coast.

Now you're being silly. Everyone knows that the ink that travels down the
SCART cables doesn't contain saltwater...!

Seaside programmes can be a pain but programmes with pubs and breweries
make up for them. Pint glasses make the ideal cable elevators and have
the added benefits of catching the leaks

I'm now using the other VCR I have. Whites now pretty much white,
although whites "over exposed" somewhat on this other VCR.

Not a scart problem as one poster said.
