Grundig GDT1500 - Too Old To Work Nowadays?
I dusted off an old Grundig GDT1500 at the weekend to give to my
girlfriend's daughter

I had this set-up with an internal aerial a few years back and it performed
adequately. I have not used it for a couple of years but now it doesn't seem
to be able to auto-scan for channels anymore - it searches & searches
without finding anything.

Has anything happened that would stop this old piece of kit working? The
area is not known for crap TV reception

Advice or pointers welcome

Cheers

Tricky

Yes one significant one - I would point you to this explanation -
http://www.freeview.co.uk/help/faq/id104963

That model could be in the few that didn't implement the Freeview spec
properly and are unfit for purpose. Approx 1% were "caught out" by these
changes and owners of them now have doorstops.

I have just reconnected one and it works.
It first insisted in updating the EPG, but then rescanned
without real problem although Sky News appeared as
a channel in the 800s. Another scan sorted this out
and it is now in full working order.

However this is only half the story. IIRC there were two
different versions of this box, externally identical but
one had Grundig innards and the other had Thomson.
They updated software at different times and to
different version numbers. I can't rember which one
this is. I have one of the others in a box somewhere
but it has not been seen for some time.

On the menu, search for downloads gives:
No Download Available
Current version 4.8
New Version N/A

You might have the other version.
OTOH it might be worth persevering
with a different aerial, letting it stay
on for a while to dry out, letting it
cool down again, giving it a thump
to sort out any dry joints, etc, etc

Best of luck.

The OP's model is not listed there in any shape or form as far as I can
see.

In a nutshell, it looks like my old GDT could work but just needs a bit of
cajoling

I am concerned about firmware though. If the unit has been swtiched off for
a few years then it would not have received any updates

Thoughts?

Any idea how you do hard reboot?

As per other post on firmware, factory settings have been know to get kit
working again and if this means it starts looking for an EPG it could be the
key to getting it working

I'll dust my identical box down tomorrow and compare results later.

I appreciate your help. If it doesn't work for you then it looks like the
bin for the GDT ...

Re: Grundig GDT1500 - Too Old To Work Nowadays?
Another possibility. I have several times had boxes go apparently dead and
on contacting the manufacturers, they suggest, usually, some jiggery pokery
with the remote while the unit boots to get a factory reset, which usually
sorts it out according to my contacts. Do not know the model though, as I'm
only interested in the ones that do AD!

Burst in to life right away - no problems there. I did a complete rescan
and it has found all 91 channels available from Blackhill, Central Scotland
- though on certain multiplexes it has difficulty numbering them correctly.
The box is on software version 3.4 - IIRC there may well have been a later
update. I have no idea if it solves the numbering issues.

But yes it works OK apart from the numbering problem.

That should be 3.6

Cheers Jim

My thanks for your assistance. Not sure what on earth is going on. Not
issues with the software in the box then

The hard reboot is now my last chance - any ideas on how to do this?

Thanks again

Have you tried to delete all channels then unplug then do a rescan,
replacing existing channels if there is an option?
