LAW AND ORDER - SVU - NEW SEASON
Is it just me - or does the whole cast appear to be sleepwalking in
every episode so far .

Whatever the show *used* to have that made it good to watch has been
lost even the cast appear to know it .

Not necessarily. If it's really bad, it's quite possible that you're
sleepwalking too. I find that not only bad TV but movies that last
longer than about two and a half hours have a similar effect on me,
except I can't even be bothered to do the walking bit.

I don't watch this particular show, but from your description the
symptoms are the all too familiar ones of it having gone one or two
seasons too far. The current new season of CSI Miami seems to have a
similar malaise. It can happen to any show when the people who had the
original idea - when it really was original - are no longer involved in
it, except perhaps some of the actors who have become producers. By
this time it will be regarded as a safe money spinner rather than a
creative outlet, because all the creative ideas will have dried up. The
sensible thing is to put TV shows like this out of their misery (and
thereby unable to inflict any on us), but they exist in an industry
that is fuelled by greed, and so will be flogged for their last cent.

When a TV series starts concentrating on fashion[1], arty shots[2] and a
music track for 5 minutes during each episode its close to death.

Perhaps plot lines in many US series are so predictably formulaic
because the US script writers have been on strike for the last 4 years.

[1] A real crime scene officer would probably wear a disposable one
piece coverall suit when dealing with a blood spattered body and
climbing into skips to sift through garbage. The female cast of CSI
Miami just rush down to the nearest expensive boutique and buy something
new and revealing before turning up at each scene.

[2]What colour is the Miami sky line? With the overuse of filters it
seems to change to all colours of the rainbow in the space of a few
minutes. Perhaps it's just smog :)
