Here are the great stuff of HD TV confuses consumers...

HD TV confuses consumers - PC Retail ... and usually a subscription
too, with half of Britons from the Yorkshire-area believing that
retailers specially tuned HDTV’s for product demonstrations. ...

Well, I'm not from Yorkshire, and frankly I think the HD industry is more confused
than I am.

Nor am I a "consumer" as far as HD is concerned, nor likely to become one in the
foreseeable future. All I'm going to consume right now is my lunch.

“The research highlights that consumers are suffering from information

I assume that LG don't put 10s of different stickers with only
abbreviations all over the front of their TVs before shipping them from
the factory?

A quick check on what is _printed_ on the front panels of a couple of
pieces of equipment in my stack reveals:
WRAT, HDMI, HDTV, DVB, USB, ZAPREC, PinP, 1080P, MP3, DTS, RDS, 96/24,
ES, Neo6, 1080P(feedtrough), Dolby Digital etc. No wonder the average
consumer could be confused but then they could always go to a reputable
retailer such as Currys and be told what all of these mean and how they
all work.

Statements such as " It must be true, a salesman in Currys told me" are
becoming the standard joke in a lot of forums.

If the majority customers are confused about what they are buying
perhaps the industry, especially the manufactures, should take urgent
action to get their own house in order.

Do you honestly believe that the retailers which is were the problem
lies, especially the major chains, actually care about what they are
selling, just so long as they keep "shifting boxes", regardless of what
is in those boxes?

It is the small independent retailers (if there are any still surviving)
who usually are much better informed about the products they sell despite
not having attended any corporate training programs.

A generalisation that is often not true.

Re: HD TV confuses consumers - PC Retail
The problem is the marketing dept of these companies who invent terms and
abbreviations for things to make it all sound techie. All it does is confuse
people. I'd have said the best advice to give anyone buying a tv, is to
actually get it watched, even if its only in the shop, At least you will
see the differences between them, even if you have no idea what it is that
you are seeing!

One of the main problems with many bits of consumer toys these days is the
lack of a ease of use button!

Like I got it screwed up aftetr a day, and the only way I know to sort it
out is to unplug it...
