Not just aerials again
Yes still ringing with their automated crrap and they leave the number
visible and its some agency or other. I told them I'm on the list, but I
did not get the impression they care even though they apologised.

I've no idea who they or what they do but Not Just Aerials phoned me
up yesterday. In the first few seconds the call was obviously some
sort of telesales effort so I hung up.

Same here. I'm also on the TPS list :-(
"Not Just Aerial's" automated message, which has an air of authority
about it, could be construed as a message of doom by the unwary - "oh my
gosh, they are going to disconnect my TV! I need to do something!"
If someone can be quick, could someone record it and upload it somewhere?

They don't care and no one else does! Think about why you posted your
complaint to a newsgroup. What exactly do you want from the group?
If your complaint is against a company - speak to them.
The best thing to do is say "wait a minute" and leave the phone while you
watch TV for 1 hour.

Re: Not just aerials again
The problem is they are taking advantage of the lack of knowledge by the
public on this matter and trying to sell them aerial installations. I've a
growing mostly second hand body of knowledge that they are targeting the
elderly and disabled with their calls, which makes me suspect they have
some kind of list of such people, but the guy I spoke to sounded like he
was a barrow boy circa 1980 and thought the words were right the attitude
was not.

Re: Not just aerials again
Yeah on a o871 number I don't think so. Its automated, you have to ring
them.
I have complained, but I thought the more publicity you put on places like
this, the more the trade will be aware of their tactics and maybe warn the
public. Of course their goods and services might well be fine, but their
tactics are definitely drama ridden and not really very good.

As I am both elderly and disabled you may be right with the targeting.

Report them to the TPS. Eventually someone will do something! They phoned
me on Friday and I was straight onto the TPS site.

Do TPS do anything except write reports?

The TPS are useful but not for chasing the nasties. So may I suggest
(as in a previous thread) a report to the ICO (see
http://www.ico.gov.uk/complaints/privacy_and_electronic_communications.aspx.)?
To quote from the ICO's response to me today:
"It is the Commissioner's policy to only take formal action where it
seems to him to be the only way of ensuring compliance with the
regulations and in the great majority of cases he manages to achieve a
satisfactory result without using his formal powers.
However, our office has received a number of complaints about the
company in question and as such the matter has been passed to our
Regulatory Action Division (RAD), for their consideration. Details of
the Commissioners strategy for regulatory action, which includes the
regulations, can be found under the data protection link on our
website."
While this might be taken as an indication that no further complaints
are necessary, I suggest the more the better. The more complaints the
more likely action will be pursued and a suitable penalty enforced.
