Connector dilemma
I'm replacing and re-connectoring most of my TV leads with F
connectors where possible.
The dilemma is what to do at the 'end' where the Humax PVR has an
'ordinary' Co-ax connector (that I used to call a Belling Lee). Is it
best just to put an ordinary coax connector on the end of the cable
and plug that in or would it be better to put an F connector on the
end of the cable and use a Female F to Male Co-ax adapted i the back
of the Humax?
... or doesn't it matter much?

Can't see it mattering much if you fit the Belling Lee properly. It's the
simpler approach.
Obviously don't use a rubbish Belling Lee, especially the awful plastic
ones.

Re: Connector dilemma
First principle of cabling anything, the fewer joints the better, so
use the intended plug.

Best just to stick with a Belling Lee. Adapters just introduce
another weak point. Actually, that reminds me. I have a cheap
splitter behind my telly that needs replacing with an F-type one.
Aerial lead keeps falling out and I lose the picture :-(

The F to Belling Lee adapters that I've used are far better quality than
any Belling Lee plug/socket that I've previously seen (£1 to £1.50 each
from CPC) . As the F plug screws into the adapter I doubt if it makes
any difference to the performance over that achieved by fitting a
lesser quality Belling Lee to the end of the cable.

Re: Connector dilemma
Why introduce another connector of any type would be my feeling.

But it does, as contributors with professional meters have noted in the
past. I've been trying the CPC twist-on male and female BL plugs that
are almost as easy to fit as F plugs. Has anyone done tests on those?

I've used them to make a couple of fly leads, nice and easy to fit and the
picture looks fine but then the transmitter is only about 500m away so I
suspect almost anything would work here.

Yes. I'd never use inter-series adaptors for a permanant installation.
Learnt the hard way.
Bill
PS Specially them fucking awful 'f' right angle things -- not interseries
but just as bad in fact worse than most.
