Digital connectors
I've bought an HD satellite receiver from CPC and it seems pretty good
running YPbPr into my Sagem DLP. It also has an HDMI output but the
connector is nothing like the one on the Sagem - or the HDMI one on my
computer. I wasn't aware there were different ones. Is it a bit like USB -
loads of different connectors for the same basic thing - or have I ended
up with incompatible digital standards? Is there a site anywhere showing
all the variations? A quick Google didn't find one.

Perhaps the other connectors are DVI?

DVI comes in various flavours.

Spot on - turned out to be HDMI on the box and DVI-D on the TV.

I'd rather have a convertor lead than use a separate convertor and Maplin
have them for about 30 quid. But there seems to be ones available for a
Playstation at very much less - and nearer the length I need. But there
seems to be many flavours of DVI. WYF can't they keep things simple? And
why a connector on a TV that doesn't carry the audio too?
