Aerial repair/installation
My aerial has been blown out of position by the wind, it's 9 years old
and was fitted before digital was available so maybe time for a new one
rather than just having it re-aligned. Can anyone suggest a rigger in
South Bristol that knows what he's doing (i.e will fit a "proper" aerial
instead of a "digital" one!).
Curiously the smaller aerial for the bedroom telly is on the same mast
but is still giving a good picture. I brought the set down to try it on
the main aerial but it too showed a very poor pic.

If you appreciate the difference, then I'm tempted to suggest you do
it yourself! Whereabouts in South Bristol are you, and which tx are
you receiving from? I receive from Ilchester Crescent, and it has the
advantage that it's Group B (vertical) for analogue, for the current
digital muxes and for digital post-switchover. So if you can get them
all now, it can only get better (when the power increases).

The standard advice applies: use CT100 or equivalent cable, no joints
or kinks, and preferably no face-plate.

I'm in Knowle Park near the A37. Aerial points to Mendip, I was
thinking of having one of them pointed at Ilchester Crescent but I'm not
sure of the recption from here. As for doing it myself...I'm far too
old and ungainly to be climbing about on a roof now!

Won't argue with that last bit (for myself I mean, not you!). I'm not
sure whether Ilchester Crescent is firing on all cylinders in an
easterly direction, but I imagine you've got Line of Site to the mast.

You could always suck it and see - get a Group B aerial and some CT100
and try it as a temporary room aerial. If it works at all, I would
guess you'd have sufficient signal to try mounting it in the loft
rather than up with the pigeons.

That's not a bad idea, as it happens I have just been given a wideband
aerial which has some cable on it. I'll try setting it up and pointing
it at Ilchester, If I get any sort of signal from ground level that
would bode well!

And take all possible precautions regarding safety.

Don't talk such bollocks. If a system is that marginal, then the design

Yes, I don't know how we'd manage if we had to do a 700 outlet system with
no joints. And I can just hear Lady Muck when she sweeps into the drawing
room. "Eye say, why the fack is there a dirty great wire hanging ewt orv the
wall?"

Thanks for the replies.
I've now had a chance to do a temporary install using an old analogue
set in the garage. Using the aerial I was given (wide-band high-gain
going by the size of the beast!) I got quite good picture and sound and
good (analogue) teletext. This from ground level with the aerial
roughly pointing towards Ilchester Crescent. So Ilchexter might be the
way to go (or point!), Now all I have to to is find a competent
installer, any ideas, reccomendations?

I know Ilfracombe's a bit hilly but I doubt you'll need a ladder! Nice
