Blimey. Was that in the high winds over the weekend?
How far did it travel, and how many were chopped to pieces during the
descent?

Bolts and plugs for Zone 1 dish?
Just got a standard Zone 1 sat dish from EBay. I've heard that this
size of dish is usually fixed it to brick with M8 bolts, but what length
of bolt, and what type of plugs should I use? Do the plugs need to be
some sort of heavy duty "specials"? I live near the coast so it can get
a bit blowy at times.

Grateful for any advice.

Cheers

Coachbolt and plug, sold as a set at various emporia such as B & Q and
Wickes. Look in the aerials section. Better still, buy four 10mm x 100m
anchor bolts. You'll need to enlarge the holes in the bracket a bit so you
can tap the whole bolt through. Otherwise it's fiddly.

Just out of curiosity, I tried out some "Thunderbolts" a while back. They
are self tapping, non expanding and don't need a wall plug......... I used
the 8mm x 60mm ones They are really quite good contrary to what I expected.

I now use them quite a lot for small Sky dishes, and they fit perfectly
through the mounting holes! Just drill a 8mm hole and screw them in (13mm
spanner required).

Ones I use are M8 x 60mm & they are £12.87 + VAT for a box of 100. From
Alltrade. 8mm SDS bit / 15mm spanner

It can be a bit offputting because when screwing them in, they are tight at
first, then half way in they go really loose (ratchet spanner won't work).
Don't worry about this though because once done up tight they are rock
solid.

Here's the blurb.

 (100) 8mm x 60mm THUNDERBOLTS
Self Tapping Anchor (Ideal for Wall Bkts)

Manufactured to the highest technical standards for complete reliability,
these premium quality fixings are a self-tapping anchor for use in a variety
of construction materials including concrete, stone, brick and block. This
self-tapping action enables a positive and safe anchorage to be achieved,
with the substrate becoming the nut to the Thunderbolt.

The Thunderbolt offers the engineer a stress-free fixing that can be
installed nearer to edges and closer together and at varying embedment
depths. The Thunderbolt performs well in a variety of solid and hollow
substrates, is simple to install and is totally removable. An extremely
versatile anchor, the Thunderbolt is ideal for general purpose and temporary
applications, offers good load carrying capacity for more arduous
applications, is very cost-effective and has the benefits of being a
stree-free anchor.

- Simple to install
- Uses standard size hammer or percussion drill bits
- Safe anchorage achieved without the need of high tightening forces
- Can be removed and re-fixed into same hole, providing thread is correctly
aligned
- No expansion forces means close to the edge fixing and reduced centre
spacing distances
- Manufactured in accordance with QS9000 from high grade steel and acieves a
tensile strength of 800N/mmsq. (after heat treatment)

Boxed: x100
Dmm drill bit diameter (substrate): 8
Clearance hole (Fixture): 10mm
Driver Type: 15mm A/F Socket
Max fixing thickness: 20mm
Min embedment depth: 40mm
Min over-drill depth: 15mm
Max tightening torque Nm (concrete): 40
Anchor length: 60mm
Washer size: 10mm
