Just checked mine - last update was 1422 - but I tried update now and
connection to update server failed.

I also noted that there are a further 2 virus updates, plus a list of
others, so perhaps the 1422 update never actually happened.

However, my wife just checked her laptop (same internet connection) and
she has the 2 latest virus definition updates!

Thanks everyone, seems likely that there is a server problem, my
connection seems to be dropping in and out - the main thing is, it's
not just me!...

Just checked mine again and it did the virus update - then told me an
update was available!

Gave it another kick and retrieved and installed the other updates.

FYI virus database is 270.6.13/1641

I think folks were complaining about their updates not working
yesterday. This seems to be a bit of a problem recently.

I confirm the difficulty of connecting to AVG's servers, though I've
now got up-to-date on all three machines. ISTR this happening a month
or three ago as well, when there was also a big upgrade which went in
stages. I tend to assume that they don't think it essential to provide
unlimited bandwidth for the free product!

That is fair enough but I wish they would admit to it [1] and not just
leave people hanging, not knowing if there is a virus preventing
update, a local network problem, a broader (ISP/web) network issue, a
fault with the update server or simple bandwidth management - as
others have commented on another (anti-virus) newsgroup, AVG seems to
have developed a 'customer' relations problem of late, people might
well be using the free version but out of the free version comes the
custom for the paid version!

I've kind of come to expect it now and not to be too shocked when it
fails.

After reading this, I've poked mine, and it's having trouble accessing
their site. Looks like there is something big coming though, so I think
you're correct.

Try it again. It took me three goes to get the update.

Have you checked your firewall if you're using one? There was a major
update of the AVG.EXE file a few days ago and I had to reset Zone
Alarm to allow the new exe file access to the Net.

I've been able to update, but the process takes a while - about two
minutes.
