BBC's iPlayer Tech Webcast at the IET
Titled: "Downloading Top Gear Legally: Why I Joined the BBC"
Given by Anthony Rose, Head of Digital Media Technology, BBC

<http://tv.theiet.org/technology/communications/1666.cfm>

Webcast includes questions on ISP bandwidth, rights and DRM issues.

Click ">> Play webcast" and wind forward about 23 minutes to skip the
preamble. Whole presentation is 1 hour long in lo-fi muddyvision and I
recommend plenty of coffee, black, no sugar. I also recommend the IET
finds themselves a new cameraman ;-)

It's been announced last month, but iPlayer is going down the TiVo like
personalisation route, downloading programs overnight ye may have some
interest in - and also syncing to mobile devices (so that hospital
incidents of people walking into lamp-posts will rise...)

This could mark the beginning of the end of similar "download - watch
later" paid services from Top Up TV & BT?
